Howdy! Here are two cents about me; I’m a low brass player and instrument repair tech. I work at my lakeside home in the beautiful state of Virginia. In addition to repairing instruments and playing tuba and euphonium, I enjoy riding motorcycles as far as possible, exploring the natural world, reading in many genres, meeting new people, and experiencing other cultures. I’m incredibly blessed to be accompanied by Sharla (the love of my life!) who has somehow tolerated me for over 25 years, and our son Jackson. I’m enthusiastically assisted by two fun-loving beagles, Frank and Berry. Cheers!

I’m grateful to have spent the last 30+ years making music and teaching in a wide variety of venues. Over the years I’ve had the pleasure of working with some wonderful musicians and people! From the beginning, I’ve enjoyed helping my friends and colleagues keep their beloved instruments working properly, so it was only natural that I was drawn to instrument repair shops. I learned and dabbled in repair any time I had the chance during my undergraduate studies, as well as during my time in U.S. Army Bands.
Around 2000, I worked in a music store while pursuing my master’s degree. As usual, any time business was slow I could be found in the repair shop watching and relentlessly asking questions. Eventually our experienced repair tech (Davidson Willie) was so gracious as to allow me to work under his tutelage in the repair shop and began teaching me the craft. This was my beginning in repair, and I will be forever grateful for this start! Davidson is a fantastic repair tech and human being. He owns Band-Aide Instrument Repair in Topeka, KS. So if you’re in the area and need repairs, you should definitely give him a call!
Over the years I’ve done part-time professional repair while pursuing my career in music education, performance, and working in retail music. The Tuba Lair has long been a dream of mine. I'm so excited that my family and I have decided to finally make this dream a reality! So if you’re looking for repairs, restoration, or used band instruments in Virginia, give me a call. I look forward to meeting you!
Available for a wide variety of genres and venues, the love of making music and enjoying the company of other musicians is what started it all! To schedule a solo appearance and / or masterclass, you may contact me at thetubalair@gmail.com, or 804-924-5184.
